2/27/11 - “The Judgment of Jesus” – Doug Rehberg

Sermon Text: John 5:19-30

Companion Text: Luke 22:66-71

First, His IDENTITY. “So Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.’” John 5:19

Second, His INTERDEPENDENCE. “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord…I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.” John 5:19(a), 30

Third, His INTELLIGENCE. “For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing…For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will.” John 5:20(a), 21

Fourth, His INAUGURATION. “The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father.” John 5:22,23(a)

Fifth, His IMPARTATION. “Truly, truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” John 5:24

“The Declaration of the Holy Spirit” – Dr. Pat Mason

Sermon Text: I John 4:1-6 NIV

Companion Text: Genesis 11:1-9 NIV

First, Discern the Truth. 1Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world… 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. I John 4:1,3

Second, Detect Error. 2This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. I John 4:2,3

Third, Detest Evil. 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. I John 4:3

Fourth, Discredit the Lie. 4You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood. I John 4:4-6
